District Counselor Info Sharing

This summer I am working within the Sustaining Team at Amazon Devices Lab126. My ETP plan is to create a solution driven process for the counselor meetings within my school district. Counselors will learn about the Lessons Learned Framework project I worked on for the summer, Amazon Leadership Principles as well as the narrative driven business writing approach. We will collaborate as a team to author a Mission and Vision statement as well as review templates I created to make our meetings more efficient and structured.

With counselor and leadership turnover every year, there is often a lack of defined processes and principles that are used to guide how we conduct our work throughout our counselor meetings. This lack of uniformity and professional relevance has prevented the staff from making personal connection to topics of discussion. Various members of the team are “checked out” of the meetings and are viewed as not good uses of time. In addition, there is a lack of leader representation from the district level. However, I believe that it is now up to the team to make clear and well-defined decisions that are solution-focused and has a direct impact on how we conduct our work and support for students. My hope is that by creating a process for district counselor meetings, they will become more purposeful, solution-focused and meaningful for all members.
