Tackling Data Analysis

In today's world of technology it is easier than ever to compile large sums of data. But once that data has been collected, it does not do much good if we do not know how to analyze and interpret it. That is the goal of this ETP: to have students analyze and be able to present data in a meaningful way. I will do an activity with my students about tuskless elephants in which they will be analyzing data collected by real life scientists and draw conclusions about what changes have occurred in a specific elephant population over time. In order to successfully complete this lab, students will be required to work collaboratively in their respective groups and communicate effectively with one another. This will be necessary from the planning stages of their investigation down to the data analysis which will culminate in a CER (claim-evidence-reasoning) written assessment.
