Cell Structure and Functions: A DEI Project (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion)

In this hands-on building project, students work in heterogeneous groups to build a model of a cell and describe the organelles and their functions. The main objective for this activity is for my students to use their collaborative skills to work in diverse groups and evaluate themselves for bias. This project inspires students to discuss their journey through scientific exploration of cells and the barriers that the scientists overcame, which might include the religious and cultural biases at that time . They assign themselves roles and communicate with each other regularly to design and improve their project.
