Data collection, analysis, and interpretation

From the moment we wake up, our brains use data to help us understand the world around us and act accordingly. We don’t only gather data for the sake of it. We don’t even do it with the purpose of analyzing it, but for it’s interpretation and implications that this has. Data is not just interpreted in the vacuum, it always relates to a “story” that we want to learn or tell. It allows us to make the decisions that drive our day a day, solve problems, and discover the universe around us and within ourselves. The idea of this Education Transfer Plan (ETP) is to equip the students with the tools they will need to analyze data, interpret it, and most of all use it to solve problems or answer questions. To achieve this the students will first become familiar with describing qualitatively the data from different sources. Then, they will use a couple examples from Dunn Lab and a hands-on experiment to learn how to analyze data quantitatively. Finally, the students will work with the researchers, apply what they learned, and present it.
