The goal of the Education Transfer Plan (ETP) is to safely engage students in hands-on practical engineering experiences while building parts. Targeting 11-12th grade students in the International Baccalaureate Design Technology unit on manufacturing processes. Students will study methods for safely cutting materials, use of protective barriers, wearing appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE), starting with a horizontal band saw. Students will learn a safety mindset, accident consequences, being circumspect, proximity to the point of operation and remaining task focused.
Career opportunities exist in Silicon Valley to perform these 21st century creative skills in support of rapid development prototyping, equipment testing and design engineering. The skill objectives are safe and professional use of each machine and to encourage creativity. A safety rubric provides feedback to the student on the assessment of each measured criteria, hence directing the student to know how to improve their work.
