My school uses blended learning and the SunBay unit implemented and exemplified by this ETP is a blended learning unit. This SunBay software simulation unit will be the basis for my class’ entire unit on Rates, Ratios and Proportions. It will replace the unit used cover this topic last year. By the end of the first lesson of the unit, students will be able to connect an animation of motion to its associated graph by understanding how time and distance are represented on a graph of motion. This lesson is investigation number one of an entire rate and proportionality unit. The unit is organized into nine 45-minute investigations. Each includes a warm up exercise, a software directed student inquiry into a real-life event simulated with animation, graphing exercises, collaborative group work, wrap up exercises, and homework. For the purposes on my ETP, I describe Lesson 1, Learning to Graph Distance v. Time.
