Don't Forget the Proteins!!!

In the last several decades so much attention has been in genetic advances and DNA and rightly so, but to ignore the expression of the genetics through proteins is a disservice to those advancements. Proteins are complicated three dimensional macromolecules responsible for many biological processes and are the building blocks of our bodies. Proteins have four levels of organization which all influence its shape and functionality. My students will focus on a group of proteins known as enzymes that regulate and catalyze biological reactions. In this lesson students will use computer models to identify characteristics within each level that influence the overall shape and function of proteins, create images showing characteristics and functions of their chosen protein and finally present their finding to the class.
