Re-inventing the Nation's Urban Water Infrastructure (ReNUWIt), in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford, studies stormwater collection. In the water unit in Environmental Science, we study water resources and water pollution.
In Lesson 2, students investigate stormwater recharge systems and the challenge of filtering possible stormwater pollutants from urban street capture. In this scenario they focus on nitrate removal to protect the aquifer. Students examine possible stormwater pollutants, including nitrates from fertilizer, and build a bioreactor to filter the selected nitrate pollutant using geomedia filled columns.
