GPA Calculator: A Lesson in Computational Modeling

In this lesson, students will learn about computer simulations for engineering before they develop a GPA calculator and visualizer using a spreadsheet program (Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel). First, students will learn about engineering problems that require computer programs or simulations to model or solve, such as rocket propulsion, human performance and recovery, and biomechanical engineering. Then, students will apply their knowledge of measures of central tendency - particularly mean - and programming with spreadsheet formulas to build their own GPA calculator. This tool will help students visualize, track, and improve their academic performance.
