Intro into Biotechnology

The goal of this ETP is to teach students two of the basic but integral biotechnological techniques, micropipetting and gel electrophoresis. Every single experiment done at The Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) uses these two techniques. In the new NGSS standards biotechnology has been taken completely out, so it hasn’t been properly taught to students in a few years. My school made the decision to keep it in our curriculum, but it has become very limited. This lesson is split into two parts and will provide students with basic biotechnological techniques they will need if they ever plan on going into a career in biology. The first part of this ETP will teach how to properly use a micropipette. The second part will involve analysing DNA samples using Gel Electrophoresis.
