During my fellowship at Cisco Systems, I learned that Cisco’s TacOps (tactical operations team) can quickly deploy globally to aid the beginning stage of a natural disaster or crisis. TacOps provides on-the-ground support using Cisco technology and rapidly deployable satellite-based networks to provide connectivity.
An example of Cisco providing humanitarian relief is when they helped rebuild Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. The goal of this ETP is to have students discover the efforts of Cisco Systems, a high tech company, in providing humanitarian relief to developing Spanish speaking countries during a natural disaster. The lesson includes researching and translating documentation from Spanish websites and informational articles. Student will paraphrase their interpretation and will present this material in a storyboard PPT presentation. Students will learn new vocabulary, partner-work, organization, searching and presentation skills. Furthermore, they will reinforce vocabulary and grammar learned in class.
