The goal of this ETP is to re-introduce students to mathematics through the lens of mathematical
modeling, and reframe the relevance of uncertainty, contextualization in high school mathematics
The goal of this ETP is to give students the opportunity to observe, define, and solve a problem. They will build a simulator to show the optimization of a controller built to direct a fleet of rideshare vehicles and the employees that "rebalance" the network of vehicles.
Students will use the elements of Design Thinking to create the norms of the classroom. The 5 main steps of Design Thinking are: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test.
Ramps are everywhere! Ratios and proportions are used everywhere in the real world, and at Sequoia High School, wheelchair ramps are a clear example of the importance of ratios. Students will interact with various code.org animations, all of which are dealing with some type of ramp.
The goal of this Algebra 1 lesson is for students to learn about absolute value equations and inequalities, and their real-life application to error tolerance. Error tolerance is the process by which Lockheed Martin engineers ensure mechanical parts meet specifications.
Real World Problem - Relevant Data
Ever give your students a word problem and you instantly get push back? Well this word problem blends in the current Superhero craze mixed with an abstract word problem that will have students engaged in the activity.
This lesson helps students develop a growth mindset in math by exploring multiple ways to solve problems.
Students will use the Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) writing framework to tackle complex word problems in math, connecting reading, computation, and conceptual understanding to strengthen critical thinking and real-world problem-solving skills.
