From Jellyfish to Glowing Bacteria
Students will be making bacterial cells glow in the dark! In this lab the students will transform bacterial cells to express the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) from a bioluminescent jellyfish. The students will then write a formal lab report and present their findings to the class.
Unseen Domestic Ecosystems
This lab is an introduction to simple animals such as sponges, corals, and sea anemones. Live sea anemone samples will be available, and students will feed them to observe their movement and behavior. Defensive behaviors such as firing of nematocysts will also be directly observed.
