The goal of my ETP is for my students to work collaboratively to design an arrangement of solar cells that produces the most current. Students will learn how a solar cell transforms the sun’s energy into electricity, weigh the pros and cons of solar power, and how to measure current output of a solar cell with a multimeter. This project was inspired by Dr. Stephen Leone’s research involving attosecond laser pulses and how they can be used to research charge carrying dynamics in semiconductors. Solar cell efficiency can be predicted in part by knowing how electrons are moving through semiconductors.
