"Excel"-ling at Data Analysis
Web link opens in a new tab; file link initiates download.
This lesson will give students the opportunity to use the functionalities of Microsoft Excel to help them in their analysis of a real data set, ranging from sports to health to finance. I will be using the Google Classroom platform to help implement this lesson, to help guide students through the steps and for them to submit their work. Working in groups of 3 to 4, students will be given a data set with which they will be asked to organize, decide what information to extract from the data, display the information as a circle graph, bar graph, or scatterplot, interpret the information, draw conclusions, and determine how this information can be used by potential parties involved. Students will develop fluency in working with data and hopefully be able to understand the importance/benefits of utilizing data. They will also be exposed to and have the chance to practice with a useful tool in data analysis with the use of Excel.
