FLOW or NO

“To flow, or not to flow...that is the question?!” The world as we know it is more complex than just solids, liquids and gases. Consider liquids and ask yourself the question... “How do materials flow?” Then, think about solids and wonder...“How do materials dissipate stress?” What’s even more fascinating is the continuum that exists between a material’s solid state and it’s liquid state. My research at Stanford this summer will explore the viscoelastic properties of hydrogel formulations to suggest a better design model for healthcare injectability. My goal is to exploit this ‘in-between’ world to hook my students interest in physical properties of materials with a fun activity and engaging design challenge.
