N00b's Guide to Ooptics
Web link opens in a new tab; file link initiates download.
In this lesson students will apply knowledge of reflection, Snell’s law, transmission, and Brewster’s angle to create a “Getting Started” guide for optics equipment operation in pursuit to verify the index of refraction of a sample. Students will be exposed to optical physics careers through the lens of an optical engineer and lab technician at Facebook.
The purpose of this lesson is not necessarily to teach or assess optics, but to build the necessary skills to learn and communicate how to perform meaningful experiments with unfamiliar equipment.
