At WJE I worked to develop a mentor framework to integrate WJE professionals into K-12 environments through direct volunteer opportunities. While they are an engineering and architecture firm, they are also professional problem solvers. It is important for students to be able use all of the information and skills learned within the unit to demonstrate their learning. During this lesson students will be given a task that will request them to develop a solution to a human or natural disturbance to protect biodiversity in an ecosystem. This lesson will be given at the end of the Unit 8: Ecosystems as a component of their unit assessment. Unit 8 focuses on showing how a system’s interactions are directly related to the system’s available energy and its ability to evolve and respond to changes in its environment. I would like to integrate WJE professionals through having them serve as resources for student groups to help them problem solve through this task.
