At WJE I worked to develop a mentor framework to integrate WJE professionals into K-12 environments through direct volunteer opportunities. While they are an engineering and architecture firm, they are also professional problem solvers.
Students take on the role of a astrobiologist whose mission is to learn about extremophiles and the resiliency of tardigrades.
The Payne Paleobiology Lab at Stanford University focuses on extinction risks in marine animals.
Following the steps of the design thinking process and acting as bioengineers, students will use everyday materials to design and develop devices and/or approaches to unclog model blood vessels.
The goal of this laboratory activity is for students to analyze sample specimens from populations of stickleback fish looking at specific characteristics such as spine length and armor plating to interpret the conditions driving evolution.
Students will use “When Stroke Strikes” to learn about the mechanisms of stroke, and why strokes are a health threat.
Students will analyze modern fossil records of four different species of a group of organisms called foraminifera, which are single celled protists with shells (tests). All of the specimens were collected from the Santa Monica Basin in the Pacific Ocean just off of Santa Monica, California.
