During the first two years of the pandemic, students faced a deficit in the development of their problem-solving and social skills. Students were impacted by distance learning as they had few opportunities to interact with their peers and to practice their social skills together in a typical classroom environment. The ADKAR method (Awareness Desire Knowledge Ability Reinforcement) is a method used in a business context for change management, helping work teams implement effective and transparent changes. This method could apply directly to situations in schools when students need to understand and to accept changes to their environment and to their learning. Students will apply their prior knowledge of Habits of Mind, as well as new information on the ADKAR method, to a case study activity that involves identifying and describing solutions to a common school problem. Students will review and provide a solution for the case study while demonstrating their understanding of the ADKAR method via a graphic organizer. Students will learn about and apply their knowledge of the ADKAR model to solving real world problems that can arise at school (academic and social).
