Youth Education Outreach on Machine Learning

2021

Students will define the problem of stock market analysis and design models in machine learning to support the analysis. Since this fellowship involves a machine learning curriculum, these lessons will cover machine learning algorithms and python coding To provide students with an introduction to the topics. About 25 students, mainly 11th graders and 12th graders, are to participate in a 3-session mini-unit on financial literacy, machine learning and lab activities (CoLab, python, pymongo, json, pandas matplotlib, etc). The mini-unit is part of the Computer Science curriculum. Note that the sessions only introduce students to the topics and that the coverage would be mostly conceptual. Students are not expected to learn coding. However, students do have the option to collaborate in a small team at a later stage for an honor program, possibly leading to senior thesis or senior project.
