From lunch to compost
After completing our unit on rocks and soil, this lesson will show students how to identify food waste from their lunches that can be composted in the school’s compost bin.
Human Impact & Water Conservation
Having students end our Human Impact unit by creating a model of their own usage of water at home or even throughout the day/week. Students will design a solution to better conserve water themselves or their community by analyzing the date from the model they created.
Modeling Waste Water Treatment
Students will work in teams to "treat" a model of "sewage" with different processes and materials.
Recycling Water is More than the Water Cycle
Purifying water with household materials to explore the process and effort of removing pollutants.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Students will understand how humans depend on Earth’s natural resources, how these resources are unevenly distributed, and how people further affect their distributions.
To Dam or Not to Dam
Students examine the proposed Danville Creek dam as a case study in water management, climate adaptation, and community impact. They research multiple perspectives, explore alternative solutions, and consider environmental, economic, and social factors in evaluating the project.
Water in, Water out, and everything in between
The teacher will open with exploratory questions about how the water we use is brought into the home, and added onto that will be an extension of, “where does it go when it exits the home?” After our introduction students will research different types of water filtration and make a poster.
What's My Water Footprint?
Students will learn about the importance of water, our water needs and usage, water treatments and conservation.
Hiring Request for Main Break Repair Team
Students will apply operations with rational numbers to a real-world hiring scenario, analyzing salaries and budgets to assemble a main break repair team while considering education, experience, and cost-effectiveness.
