Students examine the proposed Danville Creek dam as a case study in water management, climate adaptation, and community impact. They research multiple perspectives, explore alternative solutions, and consider environmental, economic, and social factors in evaluating the project.
The teacher will open with exploratory questions about how the water we use is brought into the home, and added onto that will be an extension of, “where does it go when it exits the home?” After our introduction students will research different types of water filtration and make a poster.
Students will learn about the importance of water, our water needs and usage, water treatments and conservation.
Students will apply operations with rational numbers to a real-world hiring scenario, analyzing salaries and budgets to assemble a main break repair team while considering education, experience, and cost-effectiveness.
Students explore how water is treated, stored, and conserved, using real-world scenarios to calculate volumes of aquifers and treatment storage.
Students model Earth’s water resources and cycle, then design computer simulations to explore how rising carbon emissions and pollutants affect water quality and quantity.
Students will explore innovative interactive lesson ideas on water management, engaging in hands-on activities and collaborative projects to understand the importance of sustainable practices in conserving and protecting water resources.
Students explore the Big 6 community leaders and their campaign to close the Heron’s Head power plant, learning strategies and theories of change used in successful activism.
Students will look at the development of jobs in the water and agricultural sector. They will learn more about ancient jobs as well as more about modern jobs.
