Brains and Screens

Fifth graders are curious about the world around them and use a lot of social media. Do students understand what their brain can do and how the use of social media or too much computer time can impact their brains and bodies? In this unit, students take a deep dive into anatomy of the brain and its function, looking specifically at neurons and neurotransmitters. Then, they will apply this newfound knowledge to look at how their brains are being shaped by computers in ways they may not have thought about. Finally, they look at ways they can regulate the impacts to their brains (and yes, your eyes are considered part of your brain!).
