‘Coding a Math Equation’ is an activity to expose students to math equations, coding concepts, coding pre-work and a block-based visual programming language; scratch. The activity includes pre-lab questions on math equations, steps for writing code, post-lab questions, and a final share out of the Scratch equation program and lessons learnt. In the first lesson, paired students will go through pre-work involving 1 to 2 math equations, learn about the use of numbers, variables, operators, inputs and outputs in programming. In the next lesson, students will go through a Scratch tutorial with an example, and then code one of the math equations provided. Finally, students will compare programmed outputs to hand calculations and debug any discrepancies.
