Comparing Design Concept

This lesson is designed to drop into the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) course on product design called Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) but it is suitable for any CAD class or engineering design curriculum. Students will start this lesson with a labeled sketch of each part required for a functional concept of a quick connect fixture design as defined in the attached Design Brief. This lesson will give them the opportunity to make a rigorous comparison of product design concepts based on a specific set of design criteria. A procedure for ensuring the objectivity and authenticity of each rating will be described by the teacher. Students will be assigned to teams of three and tasked to apply this procedure to their quick connect fixture designs.
