Health Equity Curriculum

Health inequities are differences in health status between socially advantaged and less socially advantaged groups. These advantages are caused by systemic differences and barriers which lead to different health outcomes. The Genentech Patient Foundation gives free Genentech medicine to people who don’t have insurance coverage or who have financial concerns and meet eligibility criteria. In this fellowship, I created a health equity curriculum for the GPF group. The curriculum will directly address the social determinants of health, examine case studies, and reflect how GPF employees can take action to advance health equity. As a connection to my biotechnology classroom, I plan to use an adapted version of this curriculum to enable my students to critically think about health equity.
