Making Sense of Data: Science, Computing and Real-World Impact

Julietta Sheng, Joonsung Oh
Engineering Biology Research Consortium (EBRC), South San Francisco High School
2026

Join us to hear from Julietta Sheng, who will share how her doctoral training in neuroscience continues to shape her work at the Engineering Biology Research Consortium (EBRC). She’ll reflect on her experience analyzing complex datasets, and will discuss what it really means to interpret biological data — from asking the right questions to translating evidence into decisions that inform science education, community building, and policy. Julietta’s story will shed light on how scientific ways of thinking travel far beyond the lab and remain essential in interdisciplinary, real-world contexts.

Joonsung Oh, math teacher in South San Francisco, uses the Pythagorean Theorem and shopping habits to make these ideas tangible in the classroom.
