This statistics activity promotes working with a team to accomplish a project that requires collaboration, data collection, research, and ability to use technology to communicate your results within a short deadline. The students will be divided up into groups to create a report regarding expected count/expected risk of an insurance company for SpaceX, who is about to launch another probe after their last launch exploded (will show video clip). The data they will need to collect will come from various sources (other teachers, the main office, online resources, common sense, etc.) and the students will need to divide up all the work in order to meet the deadline for the report. Starting from the computer lab where the team will create a google doc that is shared between their members of the group and myself, the students will leave the class to get the data and share their responses with each other. By compiling the data, the students can then make a short PowerPoint presentation with their result and present their recommendations and analysis to me. This activity promotes collaboration, team work, communication, utilizing technology to share information, and project based learning.
