Students will explore the properties of metalloids and explain why silicon is the most commonly used element in semiconductors.
Students will create copper sulfate crystals, then develop a model at the molecular level to apply their observations to other substances. In doing so, students will learn about how semiconductors are produced, and be exposed to other industrial and commercial uses for these materials.
This ETP lays the groundwork for an eight-week project-based learning curriculum unit to explore the complexities of solving an engineering problem that combines technical challenges and ethical considerations.
Blockchain: animated tutorial is a team project for a computer science course. Students, in a small team setting, research blockchain technology: what it is and how it works; then produce animated tutorial videos that explain blockchain.
Students will be introduced to the Internet of Things and cybersecurity.
Students are introduced to the project and given time to brainstorm ideas for their apps. During this lesson, students will begin creating an app using Systems Thinking Habits, creating paper prototypes, and participating in a Gallery Walk to provide feedback and user testing to other groups.
Students prepare to present/exhibit their apps to an audience. Students will finalize and exhibit posters for a public audience and celebrate their success at the end of the project.
Students will explore AI in everyday life, machine learning, bias in AI, and the impact it can have on society, neural networks and K-nearest neighbors. Students will have an opportunity to update their app, ensuring there is an AI component included in their final design.
Students will apply concepts from historical cryptography to build and describe an encrypted communication system while learning about internet security via tools in their desktop browser.
