All living things need to obtain materials in order to stay alive. Chemotaxis is the directed movement towards or away from a chemical stimulus. In many cases, chemotaxis is a matter of life or death, so sensing and acting on feedback from the environment is a crucial life function.
Chlamydomonas is a unicellular bi-flagellated green algae. This eukaryotic protist can be found in lakes, ponds, and oceans.
This lab (lesson) will allow students to gain a modeled laboratory experience of how surface antigens (proteins)on blood cells are used to identify the type of blood we (humans) have. I will set-up the lab as CSI crime scene where students solve who the murderer is based on “blood” evidence.
