We are currently living in the information age. From smartphones to the satellites that transmit their data, information technology is all around us. Students need to understand how our technology works and how they too could be the future engineers that design it.
Some forms of energy are harmful to our environment, where others are not as harmful. We harm our environment by adding pollutants into the air when we transfer energy from one form to another.
Students design and build water wheels to investigate how the elevation of a water source affects energy generation, collect and analyze data, and connect their findings to real-world hydroelectric power production.
Students with disabilities often require assistive technology devices to communicate their needs and wants, in addition to accessing various curriculum and lessons.
The 2017-18 school year at St. Nicholas School in Los Altos Hills began with a foundational change in administration - a newly appointed principal! We had been under the same leadership for 14 years and found ourselves in the midst of an immense organizational change.
This ETP is primarily focuses on the collaborative process of students learning information and teaching that information to their group (jigsaw) to establish background information for an experiment using the scientific method.
Students will learn how to research and identify reliable internet resources. To show their skills, the students will create a culminating project about a California region. They will collaborate in an assigned group to find information using focused questions.
My ETP is hands-on Science Unit (5 Lessons-All About Water ) that will help students develop a greater understanding, deeper knowledge and appreciation of water and its integral part of life on this planet.
