The CyberLearning team at SRI researches innovation in cyber learning education (http://circlcenter.org) and how to assess the learning gains students make in their computational thinking.
Students will learn how to research and identify reliable internet resources. To show their skills, the students will create a culminating project about a California region. They will collaborate in an assigned group to find information using focused questions.
Following the steps of the design thinking process and acting as bioengineers, students will use everyday materials to design and develop devices and/or approaches to unclog model blood vessels.
True collaboration is difficult to achieve. We all have different ideas about achieving an objective. Often we are reticent in abandoning our ideas in favor of someone else’s. A collaborative approach can help to move a project forward.
Students will use “When Stroke Strikes” to learn about the mechanisms of stroke, and why strokes are a health threat.
The Bent Lab in Stanford’s Chemical Engineering Department focuses on studying the selective deposition of thin films in atomic layer deposition (ALD). These films are important for diffusion barriers, in integrated circuits. ALD is a subclass of chemical vapour deposition.
Students will compare the strengths of oxidizing and reducing agents, and determine resistance to different etching solutions. Students will work in small groups, developing laboratory skills while conducting a lab on electroplating.
The goal of this ETP is to introduce students to computer programming in MATLAB that is heavily used in scientific and engineering research, especially in a university research facility like Stanford.
