Please read the following information carefully before applying:
The primary goal of the Summer Fellowship Program is for teachers to gain insight into research labs and corporate workplaces, and use the experience to craft meaningful curriculum for their students. All Teacher Fellows commit to developing high-quality curriculum to share their Fellowship experience with their school. Ignited will provide coaching, resources and grant monies to ensure Fellows are able to meet this requirement.
As the curriculum created in the Summer Fellowship Program must be implemented the following school year, Ignited requires principal endorsement and confirmation of the next year’s teaching position. The principal/administrator listed on an application is emailed upon submission and must to reply to endorse a teacher’s participation and confirm a teaching position for next year before the application may be approved.
Beginning March, approved applicants are responsible for searching through Fellowship Project Descriptions and submitting interest statements (mini cover letters). The interest statements and corresponding applications that best match projects will be send in batches to Mentors, who then choose whom to interview.
Teacher Fellows may not reach out to any Hosts, Mentors, or Partners to initiate conversations during the Ignited application and matching process. Ignited staff will contact you with questions, updates, and interview invitations throughout the process. Additionally, you may reach out with any questions applicants@igniteducation.org.
All Teacher Fellows are required to attend the Ignited Summer Fellowship Orientation on Saturday, June 7th, or contact us ahead of time to set an alternative Ignited Orientation. Some companies may have their own orientations on the first day or the Summer Fellowship Program, which spans June 9th to August 1st. If a Host company or university does require attendance at their orientation on June 9th, this will be written in the project description.
Teacher Fellows are expected to work full-time, on-site for 7 or 8 weeks, during standard business hours. The program requires standard business hours and discourages telecommuting, as part of the value of the program is derived when teachers are immersed in the ecosystem of the workplace. Be aware, applications from teachers who request telecommuting options may be given less priority and approval for any amount of telecommuting must be acquired by Fellows from their Mentors.
At this time, 80% of our Fellowships take place in Santa Clara County. The remaining Fellowships generally take place in San Mateo County. The project for Fellowships are outlined by the Host companies and are communicated with Ignited and the Teacher Fellows starting in March. Project will continue to be posted throughout the Matching Season.
Thank you for carefully reading the information above and we look forward to receiving your application!
